Aloha ʻĀina: Koloa (Kauaʻi)

Current land and water issues in Hawaiʻi with focus on ʻEwa and Waiʻanae moku

Overview

Meridian Pacific Ltd. is attempting to build luxury homes above a complex cave system in Koloa. Meridian Pacific is using dynamite to level the ground in the area, threatening iwi (bones) and endangered species such as the Kauaʻi Blind Wolf Spider. As of June 2022, the group, Save Koloa and Friends of Mahaʻulepu have filed a lawsuit to stop the development. For updates, follow Save Koloa on Instagram or Twitter. You can also read their in-depth explanation here.
