The University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa Copyright Guidelines, the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, United States Code), and the TEACH Act, governs the making of reproductions of copyrighted material. The UHWO Library faculty and staff do not provide interpretations of copyright laws. We assume that the material(s) submitted for course reserve have been vetted for compliance with Fair Use determination provisions.

1 reprint per 25 students to the max of 5 reprints per course, to be provided by the faculty and in compliance with the University of Hawaii Copyright Guidelines
- Personal copies (of books/DVDs/other materials)
1 personal copy per 25 students to a max of 5 personal copies per course
- Library collection (of books/DVDs/other materials)
1 book per 25 students, or the amount available in the collection

- Unless specified otherwise, reserve lists and items will automatically be withdrawn at the end of each semester. You will be contacted with relevant information and if personal copies are not picked up by the specified date, staff will assess whether or not they can be added into the permanent collection or given to UHWO Campus Planning and Operations to place into faculty mailboxes.
- If courses are not taught consecutively, the Library will not hold onto personal copies (e.g. spring course not offered until next spring, etc.).
- Library books will be returned to their respective library stacks.
1. Personal copies: Item(s) that are owned by faculty can be placed on reserve. Please note that all personal copies will have a barcode and label attached to the item(s) for circulation purposes.
2. Library-owned copies: Any item(s) owned by the UHWO Library can be placed on reserve. They are done so on a first come, first served basis.
-You must fill out one Course Reserve Request Form for each item you want to place on your Course Reserves list.
-The UHWO Library will not be responsible for any damaged, missing, and/or lost personal copy, photocopy, or reprint while on reserve. Faculty/Staff will be notified to either replace the personal copy or to withdraw it from reserve. Faculty/Staff should also be aware that barcodes and labels will be affixed to their personal items for cataloging purposes and may be difficult to remove at the end of the semester.
The Library encourages you to tell your students that you have items on Course Reserve. Whether the items are required or supplemental, tell your students to utilize the resources. We will be giving you circulation statistics for each item at the end of every semester.
