SUMMARY: Honokea Surf Village is a $107 million project that would bring a 5-acre wave pool, lazy river, and skate park to Kalaeloa. Native Hawaiians and environmental activists have opposed this project for a few reasons including the conservation of water and the potential to disturb iwi kūpuna. In May 2024, the court issued an injunction to delay the development of the wave pool due to an invalid environmental assessment.
Because this is still active, it is unlikely you will find peer-reviewed articles about this particular issue, however; you may find articles about wave pools in general. Try searching for "wave pools AND environmental impact".
